Research Classes in an Environment Lacking Internet Access

The main goal of this research is to gain insights on the impact of the lack of internet access on the high school learners and the teachers especially in the Investigation, Inquiries, and Immersion; Practical Research 1 and 2; and similar learning areas prescribed by the Department of Education (DepEd) of the Republic of the Philippines for the K to 12 Basic Education curriculum. To determine the impact of the lack of internet access to the learners' productivity, ease of learning, learning confidence, learning satisfaction and the teachers' ease of teaching and perceive learner's performance, a survey was conducted on the Grade 10 and Grade 11 learners at the Jose Lim Ho National High School during the 3rd and 4th quarter of the School Year 2024-2025. Learners demonstrated moderate adaptability, completing tasks within one to five hours, though their self-reported productivity often contrasted with teachers' estimates. A neutral stance on ease of learning, moderate confidence levels, and neutral to slightly positive satisfaction suggest resilience but underscore the need for improved resource accessibility and structured support to enhance engagement. From the teachers' perspective, the lack of internet access complicated the teaching process and diminished the perceived quality of outputs, aligning with prior research on the importance of digital tools in fostering deeper engagement and productivity. The findings emphasize the need for interventions that bridge the gap between learners’ perceptions and teachers’ expectations, while addressing resource limitations to improve both teaching and learning outcomes in resource-constrained settings.
